How do we choose an episode to discuss?
Pick standalone episodes under an hour that raise a question or invite disagreement, and rotate who chooses.
Pick episodes that leave room for opinions. The best discussion episodes raise a question, tell a story with a twist or include a view some members will disagree with.
What makes a good pick
- Under about an hour, so everyone finishes it
- Stands alone without needing earlier episodes
- Has a clear theme, argument or story
- Invites different reactions
What to avoid
- Pure news updates that date quickly
- Episodes that rely heavily on inside jokes
- Very long series as a first pick
Ways to choose
Rotate pickers so everyone gets a turn. Or let each member suggest one episode and vote. A theme for each month can narrow the field.
Mix it up
Alternate between genres: an interview, then a documentary, then a comedy or history episode. Variety keeps the club fresh.
